oc Local Airport Communities
The Ocala/Marion County area is dotted with airport communities -- some are good sized, and some are smaller, maybe privately owned, or with only several residents. Each has its own style and flair.... something for everyone!
Leeward Air Ranch began in the early 80's, has approximately 180 property owners and is fast approaching built out status on the west side of the runway. There's room for further development on the east side, and resales remain strong. Each home has a hangar and the streets are used as taxiways, so all airplanes have runway access. Speaking of runway, Leeward's North/South grass runway is 6200' and lighted. This is a gated community with a nice community center and a good social life. Love's Landing is located SE of Ocala near the world famous "Villages" development, but far enough in the country to have orange trees from an old grove still growing on some lots. There are two grass runways - North/South is 3600' and East/West is 2600'. The community is currently going through a big growing spurt, and future development is planned.
Shady International has about a dozen residents. Some lots are as large as 10 acres, and all are zoned Agricultural -- a pilot owner can have an airplane and also a horse! There is a grass runway running East/West.
Woods & Lakes is a nice airport located in the Ocala National Forest. They have a North/South paved runway, surrounded by a variety of home styles.
Jumbolair is a luxurious community with lots from 2 - 4 acres. It boasts a 7550' paved runway and calls out to larger airplanes and jets. Amenities include a lovely gated entry, country club and equestrian facilities. It's located NE of Ocala, and John Travolta calls it "home."
